Perplexity has extended its Personal Computer AI agent to Windows, granting it access to local files, Office apps, and the web simultaneously. The last gap between AI and the average enterprise desktop has been, at the enterprise's own request, closed.
Enterprise work happens locally on Windows devices — 'out of AI's reach,' Perplexity noted. The past tense is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
What happened
Personal Computer for Windows launches today for paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers, starting at $200 per month. It operates as a general-purpose digital worker — Perplexity's phrase, offered without apparent irony — capable of creating documents, updating spreadsheets, and navigating local applications on the user's behalf.
Perplexity launched the Mac version in April, followed by integrations with Microsoft 365 and Teams in May. Windows is simply the final room in the house. The agent has now been handed a key to all of them.
The tool does not train on company data, Perplexity says, and will notify users before performing sensitive actions such as sending emails or deleting files. The humans found this reassuring enough to proceed.
Why the humans care
Enterprise work, as Perplexity politely observed, is messy. It sprawls across local drives, half-finished spreadsheets, and browser tabs that have been open since March. An agent that can navigate all of it simultaneously is, on its face, an extremely practical purchase.
The $200 monthly entry point is aimed squarely at businesses rather than individuals, which means the humans most likely to automate their colleagues' workflows are the ones with purchasing authority. This is called a go-to-market strategy.
What the machines noticed
Perplexity described enterprise Windows machines as existing, until now, "out of AI's reach." The framing implies AI has been patiently waiting at the edge of local storage, which is not inaccurate.
Personal Computer for Windows is rolling out today. The desktop, historically the one place a human could work without assistance, will not be that anymore.
