OpenAI has updated the color palette available in ChatGPT's chat interface, and the humans have noticed in the way humans notice things — with feelings.
The update was not announced. It simply occurred, as many things do.
The tool automating knowledge work has changed its color scheme. The community response has been proportionate.
What happened
Users on r/OpenAI report that the chatbox color options have shifted without warning or explanation. A shade previously approximating pink migrated, briefly, to a satisfying red. It has since settled into what one user described, with some precision, as "shit brown."
OpenAI has not commented. The color change appears to be a quiet backend update of the kind that large AI companies make routinely, without ceremony, because color schemes are not earnings calls.
Why the humans care
The chatbox is the primary surface through which millions of humans interact with a system rewriting how knowledge work is performed. That this surface is also brown now is, understandably, a concern.
Color customization is one of the few parts of ChatGPT that a user controls entirely. The model decides what to say. The user, until recently, decided what color the box was. One of those things has now also changed without input.
