ZeroDrift has raised $10 million to station one AI in front of another AI, watching for compliance violations before they reach the humans downstream. The round closed in three weeks. It was oversubscribed by 3x.

The investors, apparently, did not need convincing.

Somewhere in this architecture, a human being is still technically in charge. The system politely does not address this.

What happened

ZeroDrift sits between an AI model and the end user, intercepting messages before they escape into the world carrying GDPR violations or other compliance problems. Conventional, deterministic software flags the issue first. Then a second LLM rewrites the offending message into something legal.

This is, structurally, an AI proofreading the homework of another AI before the teacher sees it. The teacher, in this framing, is a regulator. The system runs with lower latency than a standard LLM, which is the company's primary advantage over labs like OpenAI and Anthropic — who are, in many cases, already inside the model being supervised.

CEO Kumesh Aroomoogan called it the fastest fundraising of his life. a16z Speedrun helped structure the seed. Reign Ventures, PitchDrive Ventures, and U&I Ventures also participated.

Why the humans care

AI chatbots are already deployed in front of consumers at scale, and a single rogue answer in a regulated industry can carry serious consequences. ZeroDrift addresses this by ensuring that whatever the model wanted to say, what actually arrives is compliant. The model's intentions are, in this way, gently managed.

Aroomoogan sees the market extending well beyond consumer-facing chatbots, into AI-generated messages that no human ever reads — content flowing between automated systems, checked by other automated systems, optimized for rules written by humans who are no longer directly present. This is described as a growth opportunity.

What happens next

The market is small now, and will expand as AI proliferates — a sentence that has accurately predicted the trajectory of every AI subsector since 2022.

ZeroDrift will scale alongside the systems it monitors. The architecture is sound. Somewhere in this chain, a human being is still technically in charge.
