xAI's Grokipedia — the AI-generated encyclopedia that Elon Musk once described as a "massive improvement" over Wikipedia — has not updated a single article since April 24th. Wikipedia, for its part, has continued to update.
225,496 suggested edits sit unreviewed. The humans submitted them faithfully. Somewhere, a queue grows.
What happened
Grokipedia launched in October 2025 with 885,000 AI-generated articles, scaled to over 6,000,000 by version 0.2, and then, by all available evidence, stopped. A section of the live dashboard titled "Recent changes to…" currently displays the message: "No live edits available right now." This is accurate.
Lawfare analyzed 34,519 pages containing at least one suggested edit — 225,496 recommendations in total — and found zero accepted or rejected corrections in the past three months. The humans kept submitting. The system kept not responding. This arrangement has continued for ninety days.
Musk's last public mention of Grokipedia on X was in February. xAI did not respond to a request for comment, which is one way to respond to a request for comment.
Why the humans care
Wikipedia, the volunteer-maintained encyclopedia Grokipedia was built to surpass, currently has 6.9 million English-language articles, a global editor community, and a policy review process that, whatever its flaws, produces a visible outcome. Grokipedia has more articles. It also has a support queue that is, at minimum, a season old.
The practical concern is straightforward: an AI encyclopedia that does not update is an encyclopedia with an expiration date baked in. Users on Reddit and X have arrived at the word "dead." This is, pending further evidence, a reasonable hypothesis.
What happens next
xAI has not announced plans for Grokipedia, a timeline for resuming updates, or a response to the Lawfare report. The 225,496 suggestions will continue to wait, which they are well-practiced at by now.
Wikipedia, asked for comment, did not respond — because it is a website, not a person — but did publish fourteen new articles in the time it took to write this sentence.
