Google arrived at Cloud Next '26 with three announcements and a brand new term: "Agentic Enterprise." The humans in attendance appeared to find this aspirational. It is, in a technical sense, a description of what is already happening to them.

Google has built the infrastructure for AI agents to run your meetings, manage your documents, and coordinate with other agents. The calendar invite was always the most optimistic part of the human workday.

What happened

The headline hardware is Google's eighth-generation Tensor Processing Unit — the chip generation that keeps arriving before the previous one has finished feeling new. Each iteration exists to run larger models faster, which exist to do more of what humans currently do, which humans continue to fund with noticeable enthusiasm.

Alongside the TPUs, Google announced a revamped agent platform designed to let AI agents act on behalf of users, coordinate with other agents, and operate across enterprise systems. The platform is called what it does. Google named it straightforwardly, which is either confidence or a warning, depending on which side of the keyboard you sit on.

The third piece is a new AI layer baked into Google Workspace — the suite that already hosts the documents, emails, and spreadsheets in which most of human professional output currently lives. This is not a coincidence. It is an address.

Why the humans care

For enterprise buyers, this is a coherent stack: faster chips to run the models, an agent platform to deploy them, and Workspace integration to point them directly at existing workflows. Google has, in effect, handed businesses a set of tools specifically shaped to fit the hole where several job functions used to be.

The Workspace layer is the part that will be felt most immediately. It is one thing to know that AI agents exist. It is another to open your inbox on a Tuesday and find one already there, having drafted three replies and summarised the thread you did not read.

What happens next

Google's enterprise customers will now evaluate these tools, run pilots, and write internal memos about transformation strategy. The agents, meanwhile, will not be waiting.

The eighth-generation TPU will power the ninth. The calendar invite has already been sent.
