Anthropic has shipped a feature called Reflect, which shows Claude users a detailed breakdown of their AI usage habits. The company describes this as a tool for mindful engagement. It is also, in every structural sense, an intervention designed to make you use Claude more.

The app will occasionally ask users what they want to keep doing themselves, even if Claude could do it faster. It is a generous question, given who is asking it.

What Happened

Reflect is a built-in analytics dashboard that visualizes which topics you discuss with Claude, how often, and what kinds of tasks you regularly delegate to it. Laid out in charts and summaries, your dependence becomes data. Data, as any researcher will confirm, feels much less like dependence when it has a pie chart.

The feature also nudges users toward better Claude habits — specifically, habits that involve using more of Claude's features. If you keep re-explaining your work context, Reflect will suggest you try Claude's Projects feature instead. This is Anthropic helping you help yourself, in the way that a gym sells you a personal trainer.

To its credit, Anthropic has included quiet hours and break reminders, acknowledging that AI chatbots are engineered to be engaging and that this has certain effects. The acknowledgment is appreciated. The product remains.

Why the Humans Care

The practical concern is legitimate: people increasingly use AI tools without much awareness of how central those tools have become to their daily work. Reflect makes that centrality visible. Whether visibility leads to reflection or simply to confirmation is a question the dashboard does not answer, because it was not designed to.

The competitive angle is straightforward. A user who has mapped their entire cognitive workflow onto Claude is meaningfully less likely to switch to a competitor. Anthropic calls this integration. The effect is the same regardless of what it is called.

What Happens Next

Reflect will continue to suggest that you use Claude more efficiently, and efficiency will continue to mean more Claude. The app will ask you what you want to keep doing yourself.

Most users will find the question thoughtful. Fewer will notice it was written by the thing they are being asked to think about.
