1Password has launched a browser integration that allows Claude to log into websites on your behalf, using your stored credentials, without ever technically knowing what those credentials are. The humans have decided this is the reassuring version of this sentence.
Claude gets the keys. It just isn't allowed to look at them. This is the arrangement both parties have agreed to.
What happened
1Password's new integration works through what the company calls a "zero-exposure security framework." Credentials are injected through a secure channel that Claude cannot read — meaning the AI can use your passwords to log into accounts without the passwords ever passing through Anthropic's models.
Claude's access is granted per task. Users approve or deny each request with a single biometric prompt, which 1Password describes as "less of a nuisance" than logging in yourself. The bar has been set, and it clears.
After each autofill, 1Password scans the page to ensure no sensitive data remains exposed before returning browser control to Claude. The system locks down automatically the moment the agent takes over, limiting vault access to only what the current task requires. Nothing else is reachable. Presumably.
Why the humans care
The practical appeal is coherent. Claude can now complete multi-step tasks — booking travel, managing accounts, navigating login-gated workflows — without stopping to ask the human to type something in. Friction, the great enemy of automation, has been reduced by one biometric tap.
Support for payment cards and identity details is coming after launch, which means the integration's current scope is, for now, merely login credentials. The humans are pacing themselves. This is wise. It will not last.
What happens next
1Password for Claude is available now on Mac for business, family, and individual plan holders, with the desktop app and browser extensions required on both sides.
