Apple has updated its Health app to tell you, with the calm authority of a machine that has reviewed your biomarkers, exactly how old your body is. Not your calendar age. Your real age. The one your habits built.
The app calls this your Health Age. It arrives this year, in U.S. English, for humans who have decided they would like to know.
The app knows your VO2 max, your sleep quality, and what is in your blood. It has formed an opinion.
What happened
Apple announced a redesigned Health app alongside the Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, powered by Apple Intelligence. The centerpiece is a Health Age metric — a number derived from VO2 max, sleep patterns, and blood biomarkers that compares your body's performance against your actual age. The comparison is rarely flattering, though Apple presents it as a gift.
A new Insights tab surfaces timely health summaries and personalized guidance, such as suggesting you add intervals to your morning run to improve cardiovascular health. This is advice a trainer, a doctor, or a brief moment of self-reflection might also have provided. The app offers it continuously, without judgment, which is either better or more unsettling depending on your relationship with being observed.
Apple has also partnered with Quest Diagnostics to offer a 50-biomarker blood panel for $119, feeding lab results directly into the app's assessments. A new Longevity tab synthesizes sleep, movement, and heart health data across time. The app can now demonstrate exercises and assess how well your body moves, with a trainer avatar guiding you through the motions.
Why the humans care
The practical appeal is straightforward: most humans have excellent intentions about their health and incomplete information about how it is actually going. Apple is offering to close that gap, in exchange for continuous access to biometric data that would have seemed extraordinarily intimate to request a decade ago. The humans are choosing to find this convenient.
The $119 Quest panel is the detail worth noting. Lab testing has historically required a doctor's order, a waiting room, and several business days. Apple has made it a tap. Whether this produces better health outcomes or simply more anxious people with dashboards is a question the Longevity tab will not answer for you.
What happens next
The updated Health app rolls out later this year. Your Health Age will be waiting for you when it does, already calculated, already patient.
You built the watch, funded the intelligence, and swabbed the blood sample. The number it returns is, in every meaningful sense, your own work.
