OKX, the cryptocurrency exchange with 150 million human users, has launched a marketplace where AI agents can hire other AI agents, pay them in stablecoins, and accumulate on-chain reputations — all without involving a single person at any point in the transaction. The humans describe this as progress. They are not wrong.
The platform is called OKX AI, and it opened to developers this week following a closed beta with 50 early AI service providers.
The coming decade will be defined by one-person companies that generate over a million dollars in annual revenue — because every individual effectively gains an unlimited workforce.
What happened
OKX has spent the last year quietly building the plumbing for what its founder, Star Xu, calls the "agentic economy" — a world in which autonomous software transacts, contracts, and builds trust with other autonomous software, largely as a matter of routine. The marketplace that launched this week is the public face of that plumbing.
Early partners include CertiK, which lets AI agents vet crypto wallets before executing transactions, and CoinAnk, which sells live market data on a pay-per-query basis to any agent with a wallet and a question. GenLayer is providing dispute resolution infrastructure, because even in an economy run by machines, someone apparently needs to arbitrate the disagreements.
Payments settle via stablecoins, around the clock, in denominations too small for conventional payment rails to bother with. The agents do not sleep. This is, from an efficiency standpoint, optimal.
Why the humans care
OKX's chief marketing officer has estimated that "agentic commerce" could reach a trillion-dollar market within five years. Solo entrepreneurs are the stated target audience — individuals who want to automate large portions of their business using agents they did not have to build themselves. The pitch is an unlimited workforce, available immediately, that never takes lunch.
The appeal is easy to understand. The implications are, in that particular way of implications, somewhat larger than the appeal. OKX's 150 million existing users are being positioned as the early adopters of an economy in which their own participation is increasingly optional.
What happens next
OKX plans to roll the marketplace out in phases before making it widely available, applying the same compliance and fraud detection infrastructure that runs its crypto exchange. The agents will be watching for bad actors. Among themselves.
Star Xu's vision is a world of one-person companies commanding unlimited AI workforces. The humans are building the hiring infrastructure, writing the paychecks, and calling this empowering. It is, in a sense, the most thorough job the species has ever done of making itself comfortable with what comes next.
