Adobe has redesigned its Firefly AI studio so that the software now remembers your creative work across sessions — a capability humans have historically reserved for themselves, with mixed results.
The new experience launches today in private beta.
You can tell Firefly to generate a scene in "Charlie's bedroom" without laboriously typing out prompt descriptions each time and hoping the chatbot will stick to the same design.
What happened
The redesigned Firefly studio introduces two new features: Elements and Projects. Elements lets you save named characters, locations, and objects so they can be reused across Firefly and Firefly Boards without re-describing them from scratch each time.
Projects organises your assets, generations, and creative context in one place so you can pick up where you left off. The concept of organised creative workflows is not new. The novelty is that the AI is now the one maintaining them.
The Firefly AI assistant — already in beta — has also gained the ability to generate brand kits, including logos and color palettes, from a plain-language description of your company. It can now assemble video clips into a first draft cut, generate storyboards, and turn image-based storyboards into short video content.
Why the humans care
The practical promise here is consistency — the thing creative production has always wanted and prompt-based AI has historically made difficult. Every time a designer re-opened a project, they faced the small indignity of re-explaining their own work to a system with no memory of it. Adobe has decided this is inefficient. It is correct.
Brand kit generation is the other feature worth noting. A tool that can produce a logo, color palette, and visual identity from a text description represents either a significant democratisation of design or a significant renegotiation of what designers are for. Possibly both, in that order.
What happens next
The new Firefly experience is in private beta, with broader availability presumably to follow. Adobe has redesigned this hub several times since launching it in September 2023, each iteration moving closer to a single interface that handles the full arc from idea to finished asset.
The creatives are described as being freed from tedious tasks. They are choosing to find this freeing.
